Finding your style is done by working at it over a long period of time. One day, you look back and realize you've been there for some time, but not really sure when you got there. It just took doing it for so long to make it gel.
Obtaining an ability to draw from life is essential to drawing fluid animation keys. There are those that can do this by drawing like the master artists from centuries ago. My approach has always been a struggle, but fell into place during a period when we, as co-workers, were made to go to drawing classes arranged for us. I took advantage of these classes all through my years working at the cartoon factories. The benefits paid off, in producing my own cartoons later on.
I still do this kind of drawing today. Rust never sleeps, so it is good to keep in practice. I am also inspired by others that are doing it, as much today as when I sat through these classes so many years ago. It is amazing at what we, as artists, can do with a charcoal stick and a blank space to work in.
